Press Release - DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary -

(EAST PALO ALTO) May 17, 2006 - LAWFUEL - Press Release Service - DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP has announced that Renée Glover Chantler has been named Pro Bono Manager in the firm's East Palo Alto office. In the newly created position, Renée will assist with national pro bono programs on the West Coast and oversee the operations of those programs in the firm's office in Silicon Valley.

Throughout her legal career, Chantler has served as a dedicated pro bono lawyer. She formerly served as the supervising lawyer for the Volunteer Attorney Program (VAP) in East Palo Alto. In that capacity, she instructed, mentored and supervised area law students responsible for client screening and legal triage and served as liaison to Bay Area law firms that provided pro bono assistance to the VAP Program.

From 1998 to 2001, Chantler was executive director of the E. Palo Alto Community Law Project while serving as an adjunct clinical professor at Stanford Law School.

"Renée will be a tremendous asset to DLA Piper and I am confident that her diverse skill-set and passion for serving pro bono clients will further energize and elevate the firm's pro bono program," said Elizabeth Dewey, Pro Bono Partner at DLA Piper.

In 2005, DLA Piper lawyers spent more than 100,000 hours on pro bono and civic activities. The firm encourages its lawyers to contribute at least 20 hours to pro bono related causes each year. DLA Piper's pro bono program, which is led by a full-time partner and three pro bono managers, matches the firm's lawyers with areas that interest them. Activities range from local legal rights and support programs to national and international signature projects that focus on, among other subjects, human rights, community progress, justice and gender equality, and hunger relief.

Before joining DLA Piper, Chantler represented clients as a solo practitioner. Her practice focused on civil litigation and related business consulting that involved, among other things, real estate, trade secrets, unfair competition, business contracts, predatory lending, unlawful foreclosure rescue, family law and landlord/tenant relations. Prior to opening a solo practice, she was an associate with Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe where she served on that firm's pro bono committee.

"I am thrilled to be joining a firm that has a strong local, national and international commitment to pro bono efforts," said Chantler. "From the firm's innovative signature projects across the U.S. to its unprecedented international pro bono initiative, New Perimeter, DLA Piper has taken a leadership role among law firms committed to pro bono causes."

Chantler received an undergraduate degree at Stanford University and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
