- Organization: Welwyn & Hatfield Times UK
A TOP law lord is set to launch a university's free legal advice clinic tomorrow (Thursday).
The University of Hertfordshire's law department now offers people in the area help without charge through their lawyers and students working together.
The Hatfield-based clinic has helped over 70 people already since October.
The official opening will be performed by Robin Auld who has been a Lord Justice of Appeal since 1995 and was appointed by the Lord Chancellor to review how the criminal courts work in 1999.
He will talk about his experience in the field and how the law clinic in Herts can meet the needs of people in the region.
The event coincides with National Pro Bono week, which promotes and encourages legal professionals to provide free legal advice to those who need it.
Dr Charles Wild, head of the school of law, said: "We are honoured that Lord Justice Auld is launching the clinic and hope that this raises awareness of what it offers."
He added: "It provides a unique opportunity for students to put into practice what is learnt in the classroom, to analyse real problems and find answers for real people.
"But perhaps more importantly it is about students using their skills to help others and make a difference to people's lives."
To find out more ring the clinic on 01707 283264.
The launch starts at 7pm in the Weston Auditorium at the de Havilland Campus, Hatfield
