If you need legal advice or simply want a clarification of the law and don't have an attorney on retainer, the library may be the place for you to get the help you need.

On Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Georgia Legal Services Program Pro Bono Project is sponsoring a free legal clinic called "Ask a Lawyer."

Held at the Rome-Floyd County Library on Riverside Parkway, pro bono attorneys from Floyd and Bartow counties will be on hand to provide brief legal advice on a variety of subjects including: family, consumer, probate and bankruptcy law.

"We're here to help the community by getting them free attorneys," said Safi Toure, pro bono coordinator for the GLSP Piedmont Regional Office. "This also serves to educate the community that we exist."

There are no limitations on what the lawyers can be asked, and it is open to anyone who is looking for advice.

"We go around 18 counties and conduct free legal clinics," Toure said. "In a lot of these outlying counties people don't normally have access to free legal advice. They don't even know we exist. This program will let them know we are available."
