National Access to Justice and Pro Bono Conference
14-15 November
Sydney Masonic Centre

Under the theme, Working Together, the second National Access to Justice and Pro Bono Conference aims to encourage all those who strive to provide access to justice in Australia to work more closely together and collaborate in projects and programs that will better address the legal needs of Australians.

Last year, about $250 million of legal work was undertaken on a pro bono basis by Australian solicitors, with the figure expected to rise this year. This amounts to every solicitor providing one week of free legal service per year.

Hosted by the Law Council of Australia and the National Pro Bono Resource Centre, the two-day conference will deliberate on issues surrounding legal funding models, a review of the jurisdiction of the Federal Magistrates Court, access to justice in rural and remote areas as well as improving the accessibility of justice for the Indigenous people and other disadvantaged litigants.
