RELEASE: 2nd National Pro Bono Conference - Pro Bono: Spanning the Nation

Tuesday, September 09, 2008

  • Organization: PBLBC, PBLA, PBLO, PBLS

Pro Bono Law Alberta, Pro Bono Law of British Columbia and Pro Bono Law Ontario are proud to host the 2nd National Pro Bono Conference at the Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver, British Columbia on September 18 and 19, 2008, featuring guest speaker The Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin, PC Chief Justice of Canada and Session Moderator/MC Ian Hanomansing.

Pro Bono: Spanning the Nation, the 2nd National Pro Bono Conference will build on the successes of Building Bridges to Justice, the 1st National Pro Bono Conference held in Toronto in 2006. Meet speakers and moderators at the "speed-dating", dinner reception, or awards ceremony and learn about pro bono efforts in BC and across Canada first hand.

This year's conference will bring together legal practitioners, the judiciary, the voluntary sector and academia from Canada, the United States, and abroad to share ideas and best practices in pro bono legal services, to forge new pro bono partnerships, and to explore challenging issues that still lie ahead in the pro bono sphere. The Honourable Louise Arbour, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and former justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, will deliver the keynote speech at the Conference Dinner & 2008 Canadian Pro Bono Awards Ceremony.

The 2nd National Pro Bono Conference will provide a national forum for the exchange of knowledge and ideas concerning pro bono legal service provision. It will combine plenary sessions that address major issues and themes related to pro bono culture and practice, and breakout sessions that take a "nuts and bolts" approach to various aspects of developing pro bono projects and delivering pro bono services. The two-day event will feature the Conference Dinner & 2008 Canadian Pro Bono Awards Ceremony on the evening of September 18, 2008 at the Great Hall of the Law Courts in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Please contact us to arrange a press pass for the event or to coordinate an interview with a member of the organizing committee.
